Milpitas, CA –June 16, 2008 – ConSentry Networks announced today that Prime Automotive Warehouse, Inc., an automotive distribution company, has deployed the ConSentry LANShield™ Switch to manage and control network users, applications, and file access to primary database systems in 49 branch offices. BatBlue, a leading-edge provider of communications and security solutions, is delivering managed services of the ConSentry solution for long-time customer Prime Automotive.
Prime Automotive functions in a technically driven environment where information technology is critical for daily operations such as purchase ordering and inventory. When the company sought to upgrade from its eight-year-old Cisco access switches, Prime Automotive looked for a solution that would enable them to isolate critical systems and data from the user community.
“We were able to make significant savings and simplify our network refresh by collapsing firewall and switching capability into the ConSentry LANShield Switch,” said Steve Shaefer, director of information systems at Prime Automotive. “In addition, by taking advantage of BatBlue’s ability to manage the ConSentry solution, we’re able to save more money and focus on our core business goals.”
BatBlue recommended the ConSentry LANShield Switch for the following reasons:
• Customers need only define their business requirements; the LANShield switch integrates user, role, and application knowledge so that BatBlue can easily translate these requirements into access policies.
• In addition to the CapEx savings of an integrated solution, the LANShield Switch provides better visibility into the network than most traditional switches and firewalls working together can provide.
• The LANShield platform dramatically simplifies ongoing deployment and operations, and has a programmable multi-core processor to provide investment protection of new services.
“It’s no longer adequate to have just a switch as a communications tool; it’s critical to integrate communications, visibility, and security into the same product,” said Babak Pasdar, CEO, BatBlue. “The rest of the industry is scrambling to come up with a viable solution, but so far they’ve been very clumsy, complex and convoluted. The ConSentry solution offers the most elegant solution on the market today.”
Fine-Grained Control Enables Managed Service Model
ConSentry’s intelligent switching architecture delivers a complete understanding of users, what applications they have access to, and their file and Internet activity. The LANShield Switch authenticates users and devices against standard identity stores and automatically learns their roles. For each traffic flow, it identifies the application in use and applies policies based on that user’s role.
BatBlue uses the ConSentry InSight Command Center to monitor remote ConSentry LANShield Switches to ensure they are healthy and available. InSight shows BatBlue what is happening in their customer environments, graphically summarizing key events and enabling detailed drill-down Layer 7 views when required. With InSight, BatBlue can provide rapid incident response, complete audit trails down to individual user activity, and reporting.
