CONSENTRY NETWORKS ANNOUNCES EXPANSION IN ASIA-PAC TO SERVE GROWING MARKET FOR LAN SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE
Company Announces Country Manager for Japan On Heels of Interop Tokyo Best-of-Show Award
Milpitas, CA – July 25, 2006 –ConSentry Networks, a leading provider of secure LAN solutions, announced today that it is expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. The company has opened an office in Tokyo, headed by Country Manager Hiroshi Endo, to capitalize on the country’s rapidly growing demand for network security systems. The office provides a staging point for ConSentry to enter the rest of the Asia-Pacific region more aggressively. In addition, ConSentry’s LANShield™ Switch won a “Best of Interop Tokyo” award in the Network Security Products (Network/Communications Security) category at the tradeshow last month.
“Now is the perfect time for ConSentry to enter Japan on a full-scale basis,” said Dean Hickman-Smith, vice president of worldwide sales at ConSentry Networks. “While the U.S. has focused on corporate governance, compliance with government regulations, and internal threats for several years, these issues have taken priority more recently in Japan. Compliance in particular represents a huge market opportunity for ConSentry, as enterprises are actively working to comply with J-SOX, the Japanese version of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, by 2008.”
Like U.S. companies, Japanese companies are beginning to include LAN security in their overall strategies to gain control over who can access the LAN and where they can go once they are on it. As a result, the LAN security market in Japan is exploding, as is the worldwide market; Infonetics Research has projected that the network access control segment alone will grow from $323 million worldwide in 2005 to $3.9 billion by 2008.
Japan Office Is Base for Asia-Pac Expansion
Under Endo’s leadership, ConSentry will continue to work closely with its existing Japanese distributors, which include Macnica Networks, Nissho Electronics, and NOX. In addition, ConSentry will expand its business by working with those distributors to create a network of integrator partners that sell directly to end user customers. Endo will also lead the company’s increased local marketing and education efforts and support organization. The new office will improve ConSentry’s ability to stay in direct touch with strategic accounts in Japan and to nurture feedback from major customers about product strategy and direction.
ConSentry will also use its Japanese office as a base for growing its business throughout the Asia-Pacific region, leveraging relationships already in place with key partners. In Korea, ConSentry partners with leading distributors SBK and LG. The company also has distribution and integration partners in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Asia-Pac Perspective on the Value of ConSentry Technology
“The Japanese market is very willing to embrace innovative technologies, and it has quickly understood the value of ConSentry’s custom silicon,” said Endo. “In addition, the market is ripe for our LAN security solutions; we’ll be able to reap the rewards of the accelerating demand for products that help companies comply with the J-SOX regulations. The Japanese market will be able to leverage the progress the U.S. has made so far in compliance and deploy strict controls over access to sensitive information and resources.”
“Endo-san has the right background for heading our Tokyo office,” said Hickman-Smith. “He has a strong track record of building out infrastructure companies in Japan, and he’s built and managed strong teams that have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. Endo-san’s arrival also coincides perfectly with the adoption of our technology by large companies throughout Japan, as he has deep experience in sales to major accounts.”
Endo has 25 years of experience selling computer, networking, and network solutions to large service providers, enterprises, and leading partners in Japan. Endo joined ConSentry from Calient Networks, where he was vice president, Japan sales; he has also held executive positions at Foundry Networks and Extreme Networks.
